Using the latest techniques in competitive shooting the beginner or "old hat" shooter will be taught the basics of firearms fundamentals including stance, grip, use of sights, and trigger control. After the use of both dry and live fire drills the student will walk away with a new respect and confidence in the handling of firearms. Centerfire handguns are introduced using the newly learned techniques. Adjustments to the basics are taught to accommodate the increased pressures and recoil of centerfire pistols and revolvers. Additionally, proper draw from and recovery to and from the holster are discussed and practiced. Course Overview: - Upon completion of this program, the student will be able to:

- Demonstrate safe gun handling in any environment
- List the four safety rules that apply to the handling of firearms
- List the four most important fundamentals of shooting
- Demonstrate the fundamentals of shooting with centerfire handguns
- Demonstrate how to pivot or turn, with gun in hand, while maintaining muzzle control
- Demonstrate safe and time-efficient loading and unloading procedures
- Demonstrate the processes of drawing from, and recovery to, a holster with a handgun in a safe manner
- Demonstrate good attention to the fundamentals of marksmanship while shooting against the clock
- Demonstrate good fundamentals during multiple shot drills
Course cost does not include the cost of ammunition. Firearms available for rental if you do not have your own. Holsters available for purchase. Time: 8:00am - 4:30pm (Registration begins at 7:45am) Prerequisites: Must be able to load and unload a handgun efficiently. Safety Concerns: For the safety of all students attending the class, please refrain from wearing open toed shoes as well as low cut shirts. The reason for this is to prevent being burned from an ejected brass cartridge. Equipment: Students are required to bring a pen and a baseball hat. If student has their own hearing and eye protection they may choose to bring it with them. Must wear slacks or jeans that can accommodate 1 ¼ inch belt. Semi-Automatic pistol users must provide their own 2nd magazine.
Please be advised: All classes must be paid in full at the time of registration. The registration fee for all classes is non-refundable. If you wish to switch to an alternate class, you must contact the Shooting Sports Center at least one week prior to the date of the classes, and we will reasonably try to accommodate your request. We reserve the right, at any time, to cancel an under-subscribed program. In the case of any such cancellation, we will give you an appropriate refund. |
