Product: Tactical Emergency Medical Specialist (TEMS)

Tactical Emergency Medical Specialist (TEMS) is a three day, 24 hour program designed for the Tactical Officer or Emergency Medical Technician assigned to support a Special Response Team.

The class will include lecture, hands-on skills and an intensive final day for participants to use and hone their new skills. The lectures will include topics on team health, medical mission planning, equipment selection and use, remote assessments and treatment, ballistics and less-lethal weapon injuries, booby traps, care under fire and common injuries associated with SWAT/SRT operations.

During the hands-on portion participants will practice tactical medical skills, as well as small unit movement, use of cover, various rescue techniques utilizing ballistic shields, the tactical (ballistic) blanket, vehicles, and providing care in low/no light situations. On the final day participants will be challenged with a variety of tactical medical scenarios that they will have to negotiate as individuals as well as part of a team. To make the training as real to life as possible participants will use SIMS ammunition in two of the designated shoot-houses.

Instructor: Eric A. Stratton has spent the last 14 years working as an EMT-I/T in the greater Springfield, MA area. He completed his tactical training with the CONTOMS program in 1997 and has worked with a local Sheriff's Department for 11 years; the last 6 years with the Special Operations Unit as the Training Corporal. Eric is currently the team medic and assistant tactical commander of training for a 60 person Corrections Tactical Response Team. His teaching assignments have included the Tactical Response Team Tactics, Tactical First Aid for Officers and Officer Down Rescue to 13 of the 14 County Sheriff's departments in Massachusetts.
