This two week course is not a basic learn to shoot school, we have implemented an M&P Pistol Familiarization course for that purpose and/or can tailor a mission specific lesson plan. This fast paced and demanding program was designed for the active Firearms Instructor or candidates in order to provide a sound basis in the development of a competent instructor, skilled with both technical and operational knowledge of the pistol, revolver, shotgun and patrol rifle along with their application in the Law Enforcement arena. The course will focus on range operations and exercises, low level lighting, movement, barricades, liability, methods of instructions as well as lesson plan development based on current statistical data and case law. 

Ammunition is included in the tuition fee.

- Basic instructional skill development with revolver, pistol, shotgun and rifle 
- Classroom presentations 
- Program for training new shooters 
- Correcting shooting problems 
- Methods of instruction 
- Range operation 
- Field maintenance 
- Duties and responsibilities of instructors

- Course of fire design by incident analysis 
- Lesson plan development 
- Liability and case law for Firearms Instructors

In order to ensure that the high level of training required to become a Smith & Wesson Firearms Instructor is being maintained, we require that all Smith & Wesson Firearms Instructors be re-certified by our Academy every three years.

We suggest that Academy certified instructors attend an update and recertify annually, and require recertification within three years of completion of the Firearms Instructor course to maintain qualified status.

Length: 5 days - 32 & 1/2 hours

As always, the staff at Smith & Wesson Academy urges you to take at least one training course per year and to broaden your training experiences as much as possible.

This course will satisfy established Firearms Instructors in the certification for training officers in the use of rifles/carbines suitable for law enforcement. Tactical use of the weapon is stressed as is the judicial use of deadly force at close to intermediate ranges.

Prerequisite:

Must be an established Firearms Instructor and/or have attended the Smith & Wesson Firearms Instructor course for admittance to this advanced instructor course.
